5/26/2023 0 Comments Syberia ii resolutionThe gameplay and story isn’t as interesting as Syberia was, but it still gives the chilled, relaxing gameplay and a great end to an adventure. Although you could pick it up along the way, the purpose of reaching Syberia won’t mean much since Syberia gave so much back story. I wouldn’t advise playing this game if you haven’t played Syberia as the majority of the story will have been missed – it would be like starting to watch a film 2/3 of the way through. Overall, Syberia II is definitely worth playing if you enjoyed the first Syberia. This isn’t a major issue as it still looks perfectly fine and at least it’s full screen unlike The Longest Journey which will only run in windowed mode… The resolution is also fixed at 800×600 (like the first game) because of its age. Not sure why this happened, but halfway through I released I didn’t have anti-aliasing on, so maybe that could be the reason since when playing other games, not using anti-aliasing caused me a few issues. There were many times where the speech would cut out mid sentence and the next sentence would start, not even giving you chance to read the subtitles. I had quite a lot of issues with the speech in this game. Syberia was more engaging and interesting than Syberia II in my opinion. No one knew where he was so Kate had to speak to people, find information and gain leads to finding Hans. The story progression was steady again, but this time there was always the main goal of getting to Syberia and it was a process of overcoming the obstacles that stood in the way to reach that goal as opposed to the first game. It took me 10 hours to complete this game, 2 hours less than the first Syberia. Items seem a lot more difficult to find in Syberia II, especially on snowy terrain so I did have to refer to a guide a few times to help find the odd few items I couldn’t find. There aren’t as many speech options, particularly once you leave Romansburg but there are still a variety of puzzles to complete ranging in difficulty. There are different areas to explore as the journey progresses and there are still plenty of cutscenes (although some of the small ones seem unnecessary). Through a series of events, the journey does not go smoothly and challenges await Kate as she pursues the goal of getting Hans to Syberia, despite having her boss desperately trying to track her down to bring her back to New York. The train stops in Romansburg and once again you will have to tend to the train to continue the journey. The game begins with Kate and Hans travelling from the Spa in Aralbad to Romansburg in Russia. This review will contain spoilers for the first Syberia game (as the story continues). If you’d like to see my Syberia Review for the first game, follow the link. I’m glad I didn’t play Syberia II until I played the first game as the story follows on directly and I can imagine it being confusing picking it up halfway through, so I advise you play Syberia first. I actually got this game free with Origin’s On The House offer back in March, but I bought it in a bundle with the first Syberia game on Steam during the Summer Sale. Released in 2004 by Microïds, this point and click adventure game continues Kate Walker’s journey straight from where we left off in the first game. Syberia II is the 2nd game in the Syberia trilogy.
